Target is joining Walmart in closing its stores Thanksgiving Day! This is their first time in over a decade not opening on Thanksgiving. Target also stated that they’ll be offering more online Black Friday deals than ever this year to help reduce the crowds in-stores this year.
I think this is a great move by Target, as it gives their employees an opportunity to stay at home and enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with their loved ones. I am hoping more retailers join Walmart and Target on this and decide to close on Thanksgiving as well. The fun and magic of Black Friday, in my opinion, will be fully restored if all retailers would just close down on Thanksgiving Day permanently and have the sales start on actual Black Friday — the day after Thanksgiving (and not on Thanksgiving Day). More importantly, this gives employees an opportunity to spend time with their families!
