Stores Now Requiring Face Masks + Where to Get Masks

As the country begins to open, we’re seeing a very different world beyond our front door. Stores are starting to require that you to wear a face mask before entering. Most stores (including Walmart and Target) are suggesting and encouraging customers, yet don’t require it.

Some states and cities in states without requirements, even mandate that you to wear a face mask in public, regardless of entering stores or businesses. Browse this great list of statewide orders (as of May 2) to be sure you’re complying correctly.  Obviously, even if your state isn’t requiring them, but your city does – you’ll need to wear one.

Here is a list a of stores that require face masks, before you can enter.  If you find a store to add to the list, please comment below!

Stores requiring face masks

  • Costco: Starting May 4th, customers that are able and over the age of 2, are required to wear a face mask before entering the store.
  • Ralphs: Customers should come prepared with a face covering, or they won’t be allowed inside.
  • Smart & Final: Smart & Final requires face masks. You can either bring one with you, or purchase one in the store.
  • The Fresh Market: Requires face masks to be worn by all customers.
  • Whole Foods Market: By May 4th, every Whole Foods shopper must wear a mask before entering the store. If you don’t have one, they will be offering FREE masks, according to this blog post.  That should start around May 7th.
  • Menards: Some Menards refused to allow anyone under the age of 16 to come into their stores.  Adults shopping are required to wear a mask, and can purchase one in-store once they arrive.
  • Walgreens: Customers that are able and over the age of 2 are required to wear a face mask while shopping in-store. Customers will not be removed or even asked to leave if they don’t comply, though.
  • Meijer: At least the Michigan stores right now, are requiring face masks are worn.

Airlines requiring face masks

  • United Airlines: As of May 4th, all passengers are required to wear face coverings, and will provide one for those who don’t have them.
  • Delta Airlines: Face masks are required from check-in through the entire flight (except meals) and all times in between.
  • American Airlines: Beginning May 11, passengers must cover their mouth and nose “while on board the aircraft.”
  • JetBlue Airlines: Passengers are required to cover their nose and mouth, starting May 4th, from check-in until exiting the plane.
