Tips for Household Essentials Online Shopping During Quarantine

You’re in quarantine under shelter-in-place orders, and you run out of soap. If going to the drugstore isn’t an option right now, you’re probably feeling really frustrated.  There are household essentials you and your family NEED!  Toilet paper, cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer, hygiene products… they seem to always be out of stock now. I just shared some great Tips for Online Grocery Shopping During Quarantine… but what about the non-food things you consider essential?  Don’t worry – I have you covered there, too!

Walgreens

Walgreens is a go-to pharmacy for many! But if you need more than just prescriptions, you already know that Walgreens is a complete drugstore.  Score everything from soap to razors, tissues to over-the-counter medications at Walgreens.com, without having to leave your home.

SHOPPING TIPS:

  • Watch for sales and coupons! There are always great deals online at Walgreens.com going on.
  • Shipping is currently FREE on all orders, with no minimum purchase.
  • Some deals will only be available in-store, but you can order them, and use the pharmacy drive-thru to pick them up safely! You may also pull up and ask for a menu of shoppable items, tell them what you want (no pre-order necessary) and they’ll grab those items for you. Checking the stock online in your store will help you create your list easier.
  • Walgreens is ALSO using Postmates for same-day deliveries.  Read up on the details HERE.

CVS

CVS is a one-stop-shop for everyone that’s familiar with the store.  Grab your prescription, some Cheerios, a new toothbrush and a pack of wet wipes, and you’re set! I love that CVS is now offering more options for getting your items – delivery or shipping!

SHOPPING TIPS:

  • Add essentials from the pharmacy like allergy relief and vitamins to your prescription order to save time and money.  Learn about the details HERE.
  • As always, there are loads of great coupons and ExtraCare Bucks online, as well as in-store.
  • Shipping is free on $35+ orders, but they also have the option to shop via Instacart.  Read more about Instacart and those advantages HERE.
  • 1-2 day prescription deliveries are FREE.
  • CVS is extending their ExtraCare Bucks program, because they understand you might not get to the store to use them. Starting April 10th, ECBs earned from the Beauty Club, Health Reward and circular ExtraBucks that expire between March 15 and April 30 that are not redeemed will be reissued to you. You’ll then have 30 days to use them in-store or online. Read more HERE.

OfficeDepot

You read that correctly!  If you weren’t familiar with the awesome essential household deals you can score at office supply businesses, be ready to get excited, and have your mind blown! Not only can you stock your new home office with Post-It Notes and a new printer, you can grab some seriously important essentials, too! And yes-  they have toilet paper!!  It will be available for pickup only, but if it’s in stock in your area, you’re in luck!

SHOPPING TIPS

  • Watch for a pop-up on your first visit to OfficeDepot.com!  You’ll get offered 15% off one qualifying regular-priced item.
  • Same-day delivery is offered in some markets (generally metropolitan and larger cities).  It’s pricey, though – $15! See the list HERE.
  • Order online, and pickup in-store or curbside, in most locations.  Put your zip code in HERE to see if your area qualifies.

Walmart

Ah, yes, Walmart. Most likely, you didn’t forget about trusty old Walmart.com for essentials.  But there are some great perks to shopping Walmart.com during this crazy time!

SHOPPING TIPS

  • Paper goods, cleaning supplies, and other essentials are being restocked constantly. They’ve also limited the number you can purchase – helping to keep hoarders from taking the entire stock, giving you a chance to score some.  Just keep refreshing the product page to watch for your items to be in stock again.
  • Get groceries AND household items with Pickup & Delivery options!  For no-contact pickup, you don’t sign for your order, and the associate will put your order directly into your car.  For delivery, you can ask the driver to leave your order on your doorstep. To find out if pickup and/or delivery service is available in your area, check this location map.
  • There is an entire section devoted just to Household Essentials!  It breaks down the categories for you so you don’t forget anything, AND lets you know what’s available for quick delivery and even same-day pickup!

Home Depot

HomeDepot.com has really stepped it up for helping out the customers dealing with quarantine. They know that maintaining the integrity of homes and structures is essential, so they are open for business!  But did you know you can also score household essentials from Home Depot?  From paper towels to hand soap – they actually carry all of it!

SHOPPING TIPS:

  • Associates are restocking safely and quickly, constantly.
  • Score free store pickup (you’ll note availability on the product page).  You’ll get an email or text when your pickup order is ready.
  • There are delays, as with everywhere, for delivery. However, they offer limited next-day and 2-day delivery for online orders!
  • Delivery is FREE on $45 orders, unless otherwise noted.  Some items don’t have a minimum requirement to ship.

NOTE:  These are my suggestions based on efficiency; in-stock and restocked items; shipping, delivery & pickup options, and the potential for cancelled orders.
